Ming's Check-in

Wow, it's already been almost two montsh since I saw all of you last! I hope everyone's been keeping up with our promise to help protect our environment. I got a little too ambitious and signed up to do Project Polar Bear with a friend. I underestimated how short a time 3 months is, and how long it takes to do some things. I'll probably re-enter next year after giving it bit more thought.
Anyways, I started an environmental club at my school called "Eco Club" and we've done a couple things. We were allowed to use the display case by the library in my school, and we put up a display showing ways to be "greener" this season: ie. LED lighting, and wrapping Christmas presents with newpapers instead of store bought wrapping paper. The banner in the display case says "I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas" - pretty good, I think.
Tomorrow, we're partnering with my school's Amnesty Club at their coffeehouse. We will be having a gift wrapping table (with newpapers as wrapping paper) and giving out pre-wrapped boxes and present tags made by reusing old Christmas cards.
I am also trying to work something out with my school cafeteria where students can get a discount if they use their reuseable drink containers/water bottles. I think I got this idea from someone in Churchill? Sorry I can't remember who at the moment. I will be talking with my school principal about this in the new year.
I went to a workshop about greening your school grounds. We will be applying for a grant in March for money to plant some trees and other greenery on school property to create a "green space" for students. There are some other ongoing projects, but they haven't quite got off the ground yet.
Too bad our conference got cancelled for this Saturday; I look forward to talking to everyone again in January!
