Grant's Update

Hi guys!

I've been really busy with plenty of 'green' activities! My best news to date is that I persuaded the local council to increase the number of trees in Gold Coast Parks and they agreed to it. I've been doing some work with UN Youth Association and have written a number for some magazines about climate change and the polar bear's plight. I have also created a brochure which I have distributed to every home in my neighborhood about climate change and sustainable initiatives that they could implement into their lifestyle. Hopefully the mention of the recent Queensland Flood and their painful links to climate change, might prompt more people to get on board and start a sustainable crusade!

After reading on our facebook page that many people were having difficulty finding a business that was eager to give up some of their time to listen to our presentations I have decided to send letters to businesses with all the information that I would cover in the presentation and have found it very successful. I wrote up a cover letter about climate change and the polar bears and also discussed recent mitigation efforts by the UN at Cancun. I included a number of initiatives that I felt would be suitable and practical for any business to implement as well as the business assessment kit and a schedule of all revegetation activities across the Gold Coast that could become their staff community project.

On top of all this we've met with our school sustainability club and have set up mandatory environmental community service projects for each sport house within my school. We're also planning on setting up a green week, a small sustainability forest, getting set temperatures on the air conditioners, school-wide insulation and also getting a portion of the school's annual fundraising money to donate to a number of environmental charities!

I hope everyone is going well and is safe. I look forward to listening to everyone's stories and work!

Best wishes,

Grant :)
